The slotted bird house helps deters pesky sparrows. Sparrows prefer a round entrance hole versus the slot. The slot also serves as large enough escape route, versus the round hole entrance, if our native birds are attacked by the non-native house sparrow, The distance from the opening to the bottom of the floor is also a deterent. A 5" length from floor to opening will be used by bluebirds and wrens but sparrows prefer a deeper box. The front panel of the bird house slides out and enables you to keep your front off until sparrows are done selecting sites which is in February and March. April 1st is the time recommended to put your front on if you have a sparrow problem. Taking your front off is recommeded in fall and winter if sparrows are using it for roosting. A beveled roof with an added saw rain drip line underneath keeps the box dry. The roof has added overhang in front to also help keep box dry. 4 x 4 floor, drainage, ventialtion, bottom turn button to secure front, inside pre-drilled mounting holes, D-Ring on back for mounting ( may also be pole mounted underneath) and grooved inside panels to help young leave the nest are included. This bird house is made by the Backyard Bird Company in the U.S.A.
