Bird Houses
Bird houses traditionally call to mind quaint country charm. But today's designs are so much more--full of function and style. Decorative bird houses are made with fine attention to artistic detail: cedar shingles, hand-shaped copper roofs, distressed finishes, and sublime colors. We have decorative bird houses that are more than one-room square boxes, they're full-blown Victorian mansions! Many of our decorative houses are hand-crafted with unique woods and safe paint finishes and can be displayed indoors and out. Whichever style you finally choose, be assured that all are fully functional to house some very lucky birds.
"Nesting boxes" is a term that describes species-specific bird houses that are made with specific dimensions and entrance holes. They are traditionally left rough-sewn and without paint or stain. Our bluebird houses are designed with proper entrance hole size, ventilation, drainage, and interior dimensions. They can be mounted singly or in multiples along a path to form what is known as a "bluebird trail." To make putting up a bluebird trail economical, we offer a few of our most popular bluebird house styles in specially priced packages of 3 or 4.
Purple martin bird houses are another immensely popular style of house. People who put up a purple martin bird house are not just recreational backyard birders, they're purple martin "landlords" since these birds come back to the same houses year after year and are soley dependant on the houses we provide them. We have a variety of martin houses to hold colonies both large and small and compatible poles and mounting supplies.
Other species of birds like to nest in cavities too. Wrens are popular songbirds, and many people eagerly put up wren house to attract these sweet singers during nesting season. Wren houses will be readily used by various species of wrens. Other cavity nesters, like woodpeckers, owls, wood ducks, and chickadees, will also readily take to a bird house.
Due to rapidly expanding encroachment by humans, bird houses offer you a chance to not only enjoy watching the comings and goings of nesting birds but to also be an active participant in the conservation and restoration of wildlife habitat.
